On this glorious Saturday, we celebrate the life of Mike Muir. The frontman for Suicidal Tendencies, Infectious Grooves, and No Mercy, Muir is extremely sarcastic, outspoken, and obnoxious and that is shown in his lyrics. He is one of my favorite lyricists for his straightforward lyrics that I can relate to. Happy birthday, Mike, and pledge your allegiance!

This Monday we pay tribute to the great Eddie Trunk. Trunk is known for his heavy metal/hard rock themed radio and podcast shows and for being one of the hosts of That Metal Show. He is also the author of Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal parts 1 and 2. In 1986, Eddie began working at Megaforce records and received executive producer credits on albums by Overkill, Anthrax, Raven, Manowar, TT Quick, and Ace Frehley. Trunk is the person who convinced Johnny Zazula to sign Ace Frehley, therefore jumpstarting Ace's solo career. He also had a radio show on Ozzy's Boneyard on Sirius XM for a while. He is well known for his knowledge of heavy metal, which is put on display on every episode of That Metal Show with the "Stump the Trunk" segment. Trunk is a great interviewer which is also showcased on TMS. Eddie Trunk has done a lot to revive the heavy metal genre and, for this, I thank him.
I was trying to find one last thing to post in honor of Master of Puppets and found this comedy video. It's amazingly stupid. Watch it anyway. Sorry, I was busy yesterday so I didn't get to post anything. Most, if not all, of my posts today will be Master of Puppets themed because today is the anniversary of Master's release. In that case, James Hetfield is today's, or yesterday's, featured metalhead. Hetfield provides vocals and rhythm guitar for the greatest band in the world: Metallica. He has performed on every Metallica album and has provided us with more great music than any other musician, in my opinion. He has a wide range of vocal styles from Hit the Lights to Fade to Black to Master of Puppets to Enter Sandman and beyond and each one is great. From No Life 'Til Leather to last year's Lords of Summer, I have yet to find a Metallica song that I hate (Lulu doesn't count, those are Lou Reed songs). There are songs that aren't of my taste (I'm looking at you, St. Anger), but James has yet to deliver a song that I absolutely despise. So, thank you Mr. Hetfield for being the coolest motherfucker around and delivering some of the best, ear-shattering music around. Today is the 29 year anniversary of the release of the number ONE album of all time, Master of Puppets. On March 3, 1986, perhaps the greatest event in music history was accomplished, the release of an unfathomable MASTERpiece. Any true metalhead will be giving Master of Puppets AT LEAST one spin at full volume so that everyone can appreciate it. I know I will. For those of you who don't own the album (which if you don't then you need it ASAP): For those of you who just want the best song: |
