Centuries ago in Europe things were different than today
Foreigners were treated with respect not disdain But dreams of power soon crushed this fine ideal They set across the ocean in search of land to steal They subjugated natives and they stripped them of their rights Sold them into slavery to demonstrate their might From Socialized Hate on... wait for it... Socialized Hate This is a thrash album that I discovered through a friend of mine who shared it with me. I think I gave it one listen and then didn't really think much of it. I recently downloaded Atrophy's second album which regained my interest in their first album, so I gave it another listen. This band has some really good lyrics, and songs, like many thrash bands. I particularly like this lyric because it perfectly describes what Europeans did to Native Americans, and it all happened because of people's greed and want of power.

Her buried treasure is so easy to see 'Cause talk is cheap and so is she From Rattlesnake Shake on Skid Row This line is funny and it's a great insult to use on a slutty girl. This album is the first CD I ever purchased with my own money and I still spin it regularly, including once today, which is when I remembered how funny this line is. I've never wanted to be a pumpkin so bad in my life.
In tribute of the greatest album of all time: Master of Puppets, I will be posting my favorite lyric from each song on that album
Lashing out the action, returning the reaction
Weak are ripped and torn away From Battery on Master of Puppets This song is about thrashers being a family and getting rid of all the posers, "weak are ripped and torn away." The lyrics are great to get your blood pumping and it is a great song to listen to when you fight because of the raw energy. Taste me you will see
More is all you need Dedicated to How I'm killing you From Master of Puppets on, wait for it,..... Master of Puppets This song to me, is the greatest song of all time. The riffs, the solos, the vocal style, the drums, and, of course, the lyrics. The whole song has amazing lyrics, but this line gets the song's point across most efficiently. Once you try drugs you only want more and then you become obsessed with the thing that will end your life. Such an amazing point to get across. Drain you of your sanity
Face the thing that should not be From The Thing That Should Not Be on Master of Puppets This song is very poetic, as it is based of off a story by H.P. Lovecraft. The whole song has some wicked lyrics, but this line is the coolest, to me. Very eerie song, and also very good. The song is about Cthulhu. They keep me locked up in this cage
Can't they see it's why my brain says rage From Welcome Home (Sanitarium) on Master of Puppets This track is based on One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and is about being locked up in a sanitarium and finally escaping. This lyric expresses the thought that mental patients become more violent when they are locked up in a cage and are treated as prisoners. I was born for dying
From Disposable Heroes on Master of Puppets This single line is the most powerful one in the song. The whole song is about how the government views soldiers' lives as worthless, and the point is well made with some great lyrics, but "I was born for dying" is the best example because the narrator realizes that his life has no meaning and he was destined to die from the start. Send me money, send me green
Heaven you will meet Make a contribution And you'll get a better seat From Leper Messiah on Master of Puppets This song is about those greedy televangelists that are present in many 80's metal songs. This line demonstrates their thinking process and how they told people that if they contributed to their cause then that person would have a better chance of getting to heaven. Living on your knees, conformity
Or dying on your feet for honesty From Damage Inc. on Master of Puppets This lyric gives you the choice to either live, but live for nothing, or die and die for what you believe to be true. I just can't believe my ears, some music out these days
The human factor has diminished, in oh so many ways From the song The Human Factor on the album The Human Factor These lyrics, although 24 years old, are still pertinent to musics today. Many pop singers of this generation are talentless and get by through the use of effects and technology. You can't hear any guitars in any songs on pop music stations because it's all created electronically and without any talented musicians. Most of them don't even write their own songs. They say I worship the devil
Why don't they open their eyes I'm just a rock 'n' roll rebel From the song Rock N' Roll Rebel on the album Bark at the Moon These lyrics discuss the ever-present topic of devil worshipping and rock/heavy metal music being closely knit. Ozzy is saying that people are stupid and should open their eyes instead of always assuming that someone who plays heavy music is automatically associated with Satan. I agree with him. Every time I see your grinning face I realize you're a pitiful disgrace So many fingers pointing down at you Talking shit behind your back and you don't have a clue Parading around like you think you're god You're just a cheap imitation, a complete and total fraud I'm sick of fucking hearing all your bullshit and your lies A real born loser and that's no surprise From the song Verbal Razors on the album Fabulous Disaster It was hard to choose a single line from this song, so I picked the whole first verse. The whole song is amazingly mean and it makes me laugh every time I listen to it. It's one of my favorite thrash songs and the lyrics are nasty to the point that they make you flinch. If you haven't heard it, give it a listen. I figured these guys were a good choice to symbolize pieces of shit.
And how can you call me stupid when you don't understand what I say
And how can you call me evil, have you spoken to God today; and what did He say? From the song Pledge Your Allegiance on How Will I Laugh Tomorrow... When I Can't Even Smile Today? This song is filled to the brim with witty, funny, awesome lyrics, but this line sticks out the most to me. Especially because I was ridiculed by my teacher in 7th grade because I was atheist and I just wanted to say this lyric to her, but I didn't want to be judged even more. This accurately describes how I've felt before with my religious beliefs along with my musical interest because some people judge others based on the music they listen to. Douche bags. Oh, and fuck you Mrs. Below. Lurking and watching, his eyes remain still His mind's set on one things, a tight fragile girl Older than five, younger than ten A wonderful meal for this good hearted man From the song Good Hearted Man on the album Death By A Clothes Hanger These are some of the most fucked up lyrics I've ever heard. Just plain weird, and creepy. I know the band is trying to be controversial (just look at their name and any of their songs), but this might be going too far. I mean don't get me wrong, it's kinda funny, yet extremely disturbing. I'm not even sure if I want to put a picture to accompany this post. I figured it'd be better to put a picture of the most badass creature to ever walk on this earth, instead of putting a picture of child molestation. You're welcome... or sorry to some of you freaks...
They can put a man on the moon quite easy
While people here on Earth are dying of old diseases From the song Wicked World on the album Black Sabbath This lyric from Black Sabbath is hard hitting. I was moving furniture a couple days ago, and this song came on. When I heard this lyric it made me stop what I was doing and think for a little bit. Why can we shoot a man all the way up into outer space, but we can't even control what's going on down here. It seems like we need to get our priorities straight and focus on the shit that matters. Do only what is expected of me, With no emotions my feelings suppressed. Blind obedience carries me through it all. Conscience a word I learned to forget. From the song Behind the Crooked Cross on the album South of Heaven This song is about war particularly WW2, and this line in particular states that the Nazi soldiers are forced to do whatever they are commanded and no longer think for themselves. This whole album is filled with beyond great lyrics and the words that Slayer use are incredible. This, my friends, is what the crooked cross is.
Put your hand right up my shirt
Pull the strings that make me work Jaws will part, words fall out Like a fish with hook in mouth From the song Hook In Mouth on the album So Far... So Good... So What? This song is about the PMRC and how they want to rewrite everything to fit their needs. In these lines, Mustaine is saying that the organization is trying to take control of people by telling them what to say and the person saying the things has no control. Every day you scream at me To turn the music low Well if you keep on screaming You'll make me deaf you know From the song Parental Guidance on the album Turbo This is a hilarious comeback to say to your parents, but it makes it weird that Rob Halford was 35 when he sang this on the album... This is my favorite Priest song and, although the lyrics are pretty simple and slightly cheesy, I love this line. I guess some people who are 35 need parental guidance, but Halford certainly doesn't because he has "one life, and [he's] gonna live it up!" They certainly don't look like they are young enough to be yelled at by their parents....
Do you take what I take?
Endurance is the word Moving back instead of forward seems, to me, absurd From the song Eye of the Beholder on the album ...And Justice For All This whole song is filled to the brim with extremely intelligent and well-worded lyrics, but this excerpt is my favorite line from the song. The song is about the injustice of our government and how secrets are hidden, and this line expresses that our government is devolving instead of moving forward with it's power. Hetfield feels that is outrageous how our government treats its citizens and realizes that it is "absurd". Great lyrics from a great song from a great album from a great band. They can't stop us
Let 'em try For heavy metal We would die From the song Die For Metal on the album Gods of War These lyrics are stereotypical heavy metal and really can't be taken seriously, but that doesn't stop me from liking them. Manowar is a band that epitomizes heavy metal. A bunch of long haired, warrior-looking dudes that sing about killing and metal. These lyrics perfectly define the thinking process of a true metalhead. No matter what, nobody is going to stop us because we will die for our music. Stick out your hand, I'll stick out my finger
Kick you in the balls, now you're a soprano singer From the song Go'n Breakdown on the album Lights... Camera... Revolution These lyrics are funny because the whole song is just a barrage of insults and Muir talking himself up and these lines perfectly encapsulate Muir being a dick. Live for the cross it has been said,
But in the end aren't we all dead? From the song Lethal Tendencies on the album Death and Insanity I think these lyrics are great because it makes you look at how you chose to live your life. Either live it constantly being restricted by the word of one god or another, or live it how you want and if in the end your actions are judged poorly, then that god shouldn't be a god. Unless of course you raped or killed, then you should eternally rot in Hell. |
